Castle Goring is a grade I Listed Country House near Worthing, Sussex. Sally visited in Summer 2015 when it was at an early stage of renovation. She was given a personal tour of the property and whilst walking around, she spotted a superb space to make an installation and suggested the possibility to her dear friend Georgia. The following year when renovations were nearly completed Lady Colin Campbell then invited Sally to be Artist in Residence at Castle Goring during the month of August 2016.
The work created is a purely intuitive response to the energy of the space in the stairwell over 3 floors. It is entitled "The Flow of Love" after the poem Love's Philosophy by Percy Bysshe Shelley whom is connected to the castle. The installation is made of white cotton and flows between the floors and develops into swirling sails like veils entwining, which seem very apt since Castle Goring now serves as a wonderful wedding and events venue.
Love’s Philosophy
BY PERCY BYSSHE SHELLEY
The fountains mingle with the river
And the rivers with the ocean,
The winds of heaven mix for ever
With a sweet emotion;
Nothing in the world is single;
All things by a law divine
In one spirit meet and mingle.
Why not I with thine?—
See the mountains kiss high heaven
And the waves clasp one another;
No sister-flower would be forgiven
If it disdained its brother;
And the sunlight clasps the earth
And the moonbeams kiss the sea:
What is all this sweet work worth
If thou kiss not me?
